ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT
At the Grange Hotel, we aim to offer high levels of hospitality to all our guests, regardless of any permanent or temporary disability, medical condition, or other specific requirements. This Access Statement is designed to give you the information you need to assess how effectively we can meet your needs.
PRIOR TO ARRIVAL
The hotel is located approximately 0.1 miles from Grange-over-Sands railway station and the bus station. The walk is level for the first part and then up the sweeping hotel drive, in total, a five-minute walk. Directions to the hotel can be found on the website. If you require a taxi or accessible taxi, this can be booked in advance, please contact us for details.
ARRIVAL
The car park is reached by an uphill, sweeping drive with a tarmac surface and three marked speed bumps inset. There are another lower car park and further parking along the drive, all lit at night. Car parking spaces are available directly in front of the main hotel entrance, close to the ramp accessing the main entrance to the hotel. Please call the hotel prior to your arrival so that we can reserve a dedicated parking space for you. Assistance with luggage is available, and this can be collected from/ delivered to your car if required. Access to the main entrance of the hotel is by two stone steps or a wide, stone, ramp, with a handrail, around the right-hand side of the entrance. The reception desk is to the left inside the double doors of the main entrance and is 980 mm high. The entrance hall floor is tiled and on one level.
PUBLIC AREAS
The lounges and restaurant are on one level and the Hampsfell Lounge can be accessed by lift or spiral staircase from the lounge. The main corridors are well-lit and tiled, the dining areas have wooden floors, and the bar area is carpeted. Doorways are wheelchair accessible and seating arrangements can be altered to suit requirements. Ladies’, Gentlemen’s, and Disabled toilets are both located on the ground floor to the right of the lounge bar and have tiled floors. The hotel does not have a hearing loop installed.
A landscaped garden seating area is at the front of the hotel and can be accessed by the same two stone steps or the wide stone ramp between the main entrance and the hotel grounds.
The Leisure Suite, including Swimming Pool, is on one level and a 6 steps hand-railed ladder allows access into the water which is has a depth of 1.2 meters. The jacuzzi is accessed by 2 hand-railed steps. Changing rooms are on the same level with low-level lockers available. The gym is accessed by 2 descending flights of stairs, comprising of 13 steps.
ACCOMMODATION
Bedrooms are on the first and second floors and served by one lift as well as a wide staircase comprising of four flights of stairs, although there are further steps up to some bedrooms. The hotel has 2 specifically designed accessible bedrooms, with walk-in wet rooms. Bedrooms vary in terms of shape and size, some with step access to bathrooms and different shower/ bath configurations. Please call us if you have particular requirements about access to rooms or in rooms. Bedrooms are carpeted and bathrooms are tiled. Nonslip bath mats can be provided on request as can suitable aids for easier use of the bathroom, including toilet seat raisers and frames. Rooms do not have fridges, but we are able to store medication needing refrigeration on prior request.
GENERAL
All information such as menus, bedroom information, and tariffs can be printed in larger fonts on request. Service dogs are accepted at the hotel by prior arrangement. There is a “South Lakes Mobility” shop in Kendal from where it is possible to hire a range of specialist equipment which can be collected or delivered directly to the hotel. We can provide details on request.
