1. Gentle Walks from the Hotel
Grange Promenade Walk
- Distance: 2 km
- Start: Just outside the hotel A lovely flat walk ideal for families or a pre-breakfast stroll. Take in views over Morecambe Bay as seabirds skim the horizon and the tides shift across the sands. Great for pushchairs and accessible for all.
Hampsfell Hospice Circular
- Distance: 6 km round trip
- Difficulty: Easy to moderate
- Highlight: 360° views of Morecambe Bay, Windermere, and even the Pennines A local favourite. The hospice – a stone shelter built in 1846 – offers an elevated view of the whole area. The walk is peaceful, gently uphill, and starts a short distance from the Grange Hotel.

Eggerslack Woods & Scout Scar
- Distance: 6–8 km loop
- Start: 15 mins’ drive from the hotel
- Why Go: Dramatic views over the Lyth Valley and into the Central Fells This walk offers a bit of everything – woodland, limestone escarpments, and a fantastic open viewpoint. Bring binoculars to spot birds of prey.
Cartmel Fell and Winster Valley
- Distance: Varies by route (5–10 km)
- Start: 20 mins’ drive Combine a scenic fell walk with a visit to Cartmel village for coffee or a famous sticky toffee pudding. It’s quieter than the main fells and full of charm.
Local tip: Time your walk with the monthly Cartmel food market for the perfect post-hike treat.

The Old Man of Coniston
- Distance: 11 km
- Start: 45 mins’ drive
- Difficulty: Moderate to challenging This classic Lake District peak is steeped in mining history. With rocky outcrops, tarns and panoramic views from the summit, it’s an unforgettable day hike. Start early and bring a packed lunch.
Helvellyn via Striding Edge
- Distance: 13 km
- Difficulty: Hard – for experienced walkers only One of England’s most iconic ridge walks. Striding Edge is narrow and exposed – best tackled in good weather. Not for those with a fear of heights, but an absolute bucket list route.

Arnside Knott (Dog-friendly)
- Distance: 3–5 km
- Views: Sweeping views of the Kent Estuary and Yorkshire Dales Only 25 minutes from Grange, this is a relaxed walk with great variety and plenty of open space for four-legged friends.
Fell Foot Park (National Trust)
